Fortnightly - Gentle to Easy walking, suitable for all walkers
The club meets every other Sunday throughout the year. These walks are either short (up to 5 miles) or long (7 to 9 miles) and are usually within an hours drive of Solihull. Longer walks may sometimes be further afield.
The Walk Leader will have already walked the route and will provide advice on any specific hazards.
Monthly - Easy to Moderate, suitable for walkers happy to walk up to 11 miles
Our midweek walks offer members a slightly longer route and are usually around 8 to 11 miles (occasionally they may be slightly longer). These walks are normally within a two hour drive of Solihull.
Please note that on rare occasions the walk leader may not have previously walked the route and therefore they will not always be able to advise of any specific hazards.
Saturdays, monthly and suitable for regular walkers
Our long distance trails are based on the signposted national trails. Each trail is broken down into individual legs of around 10 to 12 miles and are generally regarded as moderate to hard walking including potentially some moderate level of ascent.
Due to the nature of long distance trails each leg is a linear walk with different start and finish points. Members share cars with the drivers dropping walkers off at the start of the walk and then driving to the finish point and a taxi takes the drivers back to the start of the walk. The cost of the taxi is shared amongst all the walkers on the day. Walkers must confirm their attendance to the Long Distance Trails Organizer in advance of the walk and cannot just turn up on the day, as there is a limit on the number of drivers that a taxi can carry. In addition, each walker is encouraged to contribute a small amount towards the charities that the club is currently supporting, when making the payment for the transport.
Walkers are encouraged to share cars and travelling time can be up to two hours away.
As these walks follow recognised trails, they will not have been recced in advance and advice on any specific hazards will not be available.
Some of our past trails include:-
Cotswold Way
Shropshire Way
Shakespeare’s Way
And we are currently undertaking a section of the Monarch’s Way.
The club offers a number of opportunities for extended breaks including:-
Club Walking Breaks
The club organises occasional weekend breaks around the UK which includes accommodation. This gives members the opportunity to enjoy different areas and terrains.
HF Guided Walking Breaks
The club organises a walking break at an HF Holiday location each year, where we get full board accommodation and a choice of walks in places such as Exmoor, St. Ives and the Yorkshire Dales. As we need to book the holidays some 12 months in advance, details are published around July and the walking breaks take place around the following July.
There are a number of ad hoc walks throughout the year including the Chairman’s New Year’s Day walk.
